In this article we are going to take a look at one of my favorite rifles from the last couple of years, the Savage Arms 110 Ultralite.

Almost every hunter has a gun that can elicit strong emotions, taking them back to one or more hunts that hold a special place in their memory. For me, the Savage Arms 110 Ultralite is that rifle. I have hunted with various rifles and done some pretty awesome hunts over the last few years, but the 110 Ultralite was with me on my favorite hunt. That hunt was last year, and the destination was the Brooks Range in Alaska. There are so many reasons that Alaska takes my top spot, but the biggest is the feeling of unchanged and unforgiving wilderness.

I chose the Savage Arms 110 Ultralite for this hunt for a number of reasons. First, the weight of this rifle comes in at an unreal 5.8 pounds. If you have ever hunted in unforgiving terrain or even just hit the backpacking trails for an extended period of time, you know the saying “ounces become pounds” rings very true. We put in some serious time and miles hiking accross the tundra and having a rifle that was sub 6 pounds made my life so much easier.

The Savage Arms 110 Ultralite also has some great features as far as customization goes. This rifle includes both the Savage Arms AccuFit and Savage Arms AccuTrigger systems. The AccuFit system allows me to easily change my length of pull and comb height with very minimal effort. If you are a new shooter, both of those adjustments are going to mean a world of difference to you when you are behind your gun, both in terms of accuracy and comfort. The AccuTrigger allows for the adjustment of the factory trigger from 1.5-4 pounds which means you can have the trigger pull of your dreams without ever having to call a gunsmith.

For me, the Savage Arms 110 Ultralite is like a lightning rod for great memories of my time hunting caribou in Alaska. Whenever I shoot this gun I think back to the great, but challenging, times spent stomping around the tundra with friends. Not only did I take a caribou that I was really proud of, I pushed my limits, harvesting my caribou at 487 yards!
