Unless you plan on doing some serious cafe/pub meal eating whilst away youll need a stove to whip up some food!
At the very least you should try cooking some bacon sandwiches as there is no better smell to drift across the campsite (unless you are vegetarian).
Well again that depends on what type of camper and how many of you there are. We do two main types of stove; family camping stoves and backpacker stoves. The first are larger and similar to the gas stove you would use at home. They can be powered by gas canisters but are more commonly powered by gas tanks or bottles due to the large amounts of gas they can consume. The second category are backpacker stoves which are made to be both lightweigtht and compact. Designed to be used by walkers and hikers.
Can I buy the gas from you?
Generally no you cannot. Due to the flammable nature of gas the majority of couriers do not allow us to post it to you so you will need to visit your local camping shop. A real pain we know but not much we can do. However if you live in Leeds feel free to drop in and buy some! The same goes for gas bottles which you will need to purchase and refill from an authorised dealer.
Should I buy a double burner?
Double burners allow you to create culinary masterpeices however they are big and gas hingry. If you use it reguarly you will need a gas bottle version. They are great for families and groups but probably not recommend for weekends or couples. Consider taking two single stoves as then you have flexibility for different trips.
Should I get one with a grill?
Do you love toast? Then yes!! Having said that you can buy camping toasters that fit on stoves but they never work as well as one fitted inside a double stove. Probably a luxury for many campers but still horses for courses.
Which brand stove should I buy?
All our brands build stove to UK health and safety requirements so you can be assured of the upmost quality. What may influence your brand is the type of refill cartridges it needs and how easily you can get hold of them. Campingaz uses a unique range of push fit cartridges which will not work with any other brand of stove but are easily found in most of Europe and even worldwide if you opt for an old school puncture cartridge C206 model. The other style of cartridge uses a self seal screw thread and should work with other brands of stove. So even if you buy a Coleman stove you can usually find cheaper brand compatible cartridges in your local camping shop. If you are travelling outside of the UK its worth finding out the availability and style of refills in your chosen destination.
